transparent manner. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal
information when you use our mobile application.
By using Name It, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Store Locally on Your Device
All data is stored locally on your device. We do not collect or transmit your personal information
to any servers.
You may provide the following information, which is stored on your device only:
- Personal Information: Names, nicknames, birthdays, phone numbers, email addresses, and
notes about people in your network
- Photos: Profile photos of people you add (from camera or photo library)
- Relationships: Information about how people are connected to each other
- Groups: Custom categories for organizing people
- Location Data: Optional location information about where you met people or their
addresses
- Voice Recordings: Temporary audio recordings when using voice input features (processed
locally and deleted immediately after processing)
- Gift Ideas: Optional notes about gift ideas for people in your network
1.2 Anonymous Analytics We Collect
We collect minimal, anonymous usage data to improve the app:
- Device Information: Device type, operating system, app version (no unique identifiers)
- Usage Statistics: Features you use, errors encountered (aggregated and anonymized)
- Performance Data: App performance metrics (no personally identifiable information)
Important: This analytics data is anonymous and cannot be linked to you or your personal
network data.
1.3 Information from Third Parties
- Contacts (Optional): With your explicit permission, we can import names and phone
numbers from your device's contact list (imported data stays on your device)
- Google Maps: When you use location features, Google Maps API processes your location
queries
2. How We Use Your Information
2.1 Local-Only Storage
Your personal data is stored exclusively on your device:
- Storing and managing your personal network of people and relationships
- Displaying birthdays and sending reminder notifications
- Organizing people into groups and categories
- Providing search and filtering capabilities
- Enabling voice input for adding people and relationships
- All processing happens locally on your device
2.2 Data Backup (Local ZIP Export)
You can create manual backups:
- Export your data as a ZIP file (Settings → Export Data)
- ZIP file is saved to your device's storage
- You control where you store backups (cloud storage of your choice, computer, etc.)
- Import from ZIP file to restore your data
2.3 Anonymous Analytics
- Analyzing aggregated usage patterns to improve features (anonymous only)
- Identifying and fixing bugs and errors
- Understanding which features are most valuable to users
- Optimizing app performance
2.4 Customer Support
- Responding to your support requests via email
- Providing general troubleshooting guidance
3. Data Storage and Security
3.1 Local Storage (100% of Your Personal Data)
All your personal data is stored locally on your device:
- Data stored in encrypted local database (iOS/Android secure storage)
- Photos stored in app's private directory (permanent local storage)
- Data remains on your device and is never transmitted to our servers
- You have complete control over your data
- No cloud sync, no servers, no accounts required
3.2 ZIP Backup/Restore
You can manually backup and restore your data:
- Export your data as a ZIP file (includes all people, relationships, groups, and photos)
- ZIP file is saved to your device's Downloads folder
- You choose where to store backups (your own cloud storage, computer, external drive)
- Import from ZIP file to restore data on the same device or a new device
- We never see your backup files - they stay under your control
3.3 Security Measures
- Encrypted local storage (iOS/Android secure storage)
- App data isolated from other apps
- Regular security updates and patches
- No transmission of personal data means no interception risk
4. Who Can Access Your Data
4.1 Only You
- You are the only person who can access your personal data
- Data never leaves your device (except when you manually create a ZIP backup)
- You can delete your data at any time (Settings → Clear All Data)
- No administrators, developers, or third parties have access to your personal network data
4.2 Third-Party Services (Limited Anonymous Data Only)
We use the following third-party services that process anonymous analytics only:
Google Maps API:
- Purpose: Location features, reverse geocoding
- Data Processed: Location coordinates when you use location features (not linked to your identity)
- Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
Expo (Development Platform):
- Purpose: App framework, crash reports, anonymous analytics
- Data Processed: Device type, OS version, app version, anonymous usage stats
- Privacy Policy: https://expo.dev/privacy
Important: These services do not receive any of your personal network data (names,
relationships, photos, etc.)
5. Data Retention
5.1 Local Data
- Stored on your device until you delete it
- Remains indefinitely unless you clear app data or uninstall the app
- No server-side storage or retention - your data stays on your device only
5.2 ZIP Backups
- ZIP backups you create are stored wherever you choose to save them
- You control retention of backup files
- We do not store copies of your backups
5.3 Anonymous Analytics
- Aggregated usage statistics retained for app improvement
- No personal data in analytics (device-level data only)
- Cannot be linked back to you or your network data
6. Your Rights (GDPR & CCPA Compliance)
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
6.1 Right to Access
- You can access all your data through the app
- Request a copy of data we store about you
6.2 Right to Rectification
- You can edit any information in the app
- Request correction of inaccurate data
6.3 Right to Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten")
- Delete individual people, relationships, or groups in the app
- Clear all data (Settings → Clear All Data)
- Uninstall the app to remove all local data
6.4 Right to Data Portability
- Export your data in JSON format (Settings → Export Data)
- Transfer your data to another service
6.5 Right to Object
- Revoke optional permissions at any time (device settings)
- All storage is local - no cloud sync to opt out of

7. Children's Privacy
Name It is not intended for users under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect
personal information from children.
If we discover that we have collected data from a child under the appropriate age, we will delete it
immediately. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us at webofnamesfeedback@gmail.com.
8. International Data Transfers
Your personal network data never leaves your device, so there are no international transfers of your
personal information.
The only data transferred internationally is anonymous analytics:
- Device type, OS version, app version
- Anonymous usage statistics
- Crash reports (no personal data)
This anonymous data is processed by Expo's analytics services, which may be located in various countries.
9. Permissions We Request
Name It requests the following permissions:
Required Permissions
- Storage: To save app data locally on your device
Optional Permissions (Only if you use these features)
- Camera: To take photos of people (only when you tap the camera button)
- Photo Library: To select existing photos from your gallery
- Contacts: To import people from your phone contacts (you choose which to import)
- Location: To tag where you met people or their address (only when you use location
features)
- Microphone: To use voice input for adding people and relationships
- Notifications: To remind you of upcoming birthdays
You can grant or revoke these permissions at any time in your device settings.
10. Cookies and Tracking
10.1 Anonymous Analytics
- We collect anonymous usage statistics via Expo Analytics
- Data is aggregated and cannot be linked to you
- No personally identifiable information is tracked
- No tracking of your personal network data (names, relationships, etc.)
10.2 No Third-Party Advertising
- We do not use advertising networks
- We do not sell your data to advertisers
- We do not track you for marketing purposes
11. Premium Subscription
11.1 Premium Features
- Unlimited people (free tier limited to 30)
- Advanced features and customization
- Future premium features
Note: Premium subscription does not include cloud sync. All data remains local on your
device.
11.2 Payment Processing
- Payments processed by Apple App Store or Google Play Store
- We do not store credit card information
- Subscription managed through your app store account
- See Apple/Google terms for payment and refund policies
11.3 What Happens if You Cancel
- Your local data remains on your device
- You revert to free tier limitations (30 person limit)
- No data is deleted when you cancel
12. Data Breach Notification
In the unlikely event of a data breach that affects your personal information:
- We will notify you within 72 hours via email
- We will notify relevant authorities as required by law
- We will provide information about what data was affected
- We will explain steps we're taking to prevent future breaches
13. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do:
- We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top
- We will notify you of significant changes via in-app notification
- Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance
- Previous versions will be archived and available upon request

affects you.
The only automated processing we perform:
- Inferring relationships based on your input (e.g., spouse's parent → parent-in-law)
- Detecting gender from names for better relationship labels
- Suggesting relationship types based on existing data
All of these are transparent, reversible, and do not affect your rights.
17. Open Source and Transparency
We believe in transparency. While Name It is not currently open source, we:
- Clearly document all data collection and usage
- Provide export functionality for your data
- Use open standards (JSON) for data portability
- Will consider open-sourcing in the future
18. Data Deletion
You have the right to delete your data at any time.
How to Delete Your Data
In-App Deletion (Recommended):
- Open Name It app
- Go to Settings → Privacy
- Tap "Clear All Data" to delete all local data immediately
Uninstall the App:
- Uninstalling the app removes all app data from your device
- No server-side data to delete
What Gets Deleted:
- All personal information (names, birthdays, notes, etc.)
- All photos and relationship data
- All groups and starred relationships
- All app settings and preferences
Timeline:
- In-app deletion: Immediate
- Uninstall: Immediate (when you uninstall the app)
- No cloud data or backups to delete - everything is local
